Description
Ceresit CT174 is a hybrid silicate-silicone thin-coat render with a 1.5mm grain. The silicate component gives high vapour permeability, the silicone component gives low water absorption and dirt resistance — which is why it is the usual choice over mineral wool systems and on older solid walls that need to breathe outwards. BioProtect formula resists algae, mould and fungus. Ready mixed in 25kg tubs, tinted to order in any Ceresit Colours of Nature shade.
Coverage
- Approximately 2.5kg/m² at 1.5mm grain
- Roughly 10m² per 25kg tub
- Allow around 5% extra for reveals, detailing and wastage
CT174 or CT74?
Both are premium thin-coat finishes. CT74 is pure silicone — the most hydrophobic and self-cleaning of the two, and the usual pick over EPS. CT174 is the silicate-silicone hybrid, with higher breathability, which makes it the better fit over mineral wool and on solid wall properties where outward drying matters. If you are not sure which the build-up calls for, call us and we will go through it.
Application
- Absorbent substrates: prime with Ceresit CT17, then CT16. Non-absorbent mineral substrates: CT16 direct
- Use a CT16 primer in a shade close to the final render colour
- Apply at 5°C to 25°C, substrate and air. Stir thoroughly, do not overwater
- Apply with a stainless steel float to grain thickness, texture with a plastic float
- Work wet-on-wet across a full elevation to avoid lap marks
- Silicate renders carbonate as they cure — if they dry too quickly in sun or wind you can get patchy colour, so sheet the scaffold
Ordering colours
Tinted to order from the full Colours of Nature palette. Order the whole job at once so every tub is from the same batch. If you do end up with mixed batches, box them together in a large tub before use. On intense dark shades Ceresit recommend limiting use to small areas and architectural detail rather than full elevations.
Buying from Pinks
We stock the full Ceretherm system — ZU and CT85 adhesives, EPS and mineral wool boards, mesh, beads, CT16 and CT17 primers and top coats — so the whole build-up comes on one delivery. Send us your elevation sizes and we will do the take-off and price the full system.
